Prairieview Center is a group home and therapeutic school serving children ages 12-21. Each individual served has a documented hearing loss or communication disorder. In addition, each student may have other challenges such as behavioral disorders, emotional disorders, Autism, development delays, visual impairment, cognitive impairment, Usher syndrome, and CHARGE syndrome, including students who are classified as multiply disabled. Prairieview Center is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), licensed by Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and accredited by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Individuals are served in a home located in a rural area of the Bloomington-Normal community. The home is staffed 24 hours a day and is open 365 days a year. Open communication with families is encouraged and family therapy is available on a regular or intermittent basis. All students receive individual and group therapy specific to their needs and have the opportunity to develop their academic and daily living skills through community learning.
Prairieview Center’s therapeutic school addresses not only the academic needs of the students, but also their social-emotional needs. All students have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and an Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) developed by a treatment team consisting of a psychologist, a registered nurse, teachers of the Deaf, childcare workers, and a consulting psychiatrist.
