
Center Glen III is a group home and therapeutic school serving female adolescents and young adults ages 14-21. Each individual served has a documented hearing loss or communication disorder. In addition, each student may have other challenges such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, CHARGE, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, various impulse control issues, Autism, Aspergers, mental disorders due to a medical condition, and personality disorders, including students who are classified as multiply disabled. Center Glen III is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), licensed by Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and accredited by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Students are served in a home located in the north suburbs of Chicago, IL. The home is staffed 24 hours a day and is open 365 days a year. Each individual receives not only educational services weekdays at the off site classroom (Center Glen II school program) as well as daily living skills coaching as a part of their residential program. Students are taught proper hygiene care, how to complete chores and laundry, accessing community resources via the internet or the library, budgeting allowance, and grocery shopping. They are also encouraged to engage socially with their peers and often participate in field trips, eating out at restaurants, playing games, and various community activities.
Center Glen III offers an extended year school program as well as a residential program in a well-supervised, total communication environment. All students have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), an Individual Treatment Plan (ITP), and vocational instruction both on and off site. Treatment goals are developed by a team including psychologists, a psychiatrist, a registered nurse, teachers of the Deaf, child welfare specialists, and childcare workers. Emotions group therapy is provided for all students and is intended to teach healthy coping skills when dealing with negative emotions.
