Mental Health and Deafness Resources, Inc. provides educational services to all clients who are enrolled in our programs. Certified Teachers of the Deaf are employed to plan and implement all educational services. Educational services provided include services to day students, as well as residential students at the group home sites. Clients in the hospital program at Scott Nolan Center also receive educational services.
Students who attend the group homes as day or residential students receive academic instruction in the areas specified on their IEP’s. This instruction is planned by the certified teacher of the deaf and implemented by the teacher or 1:1 educational aides, as appropriate. Academic instruction may include reading, language, math, speech, social studies, science, daily living skills, social skills, and vocational training. Students who live at home with their families are given activities to do at home to reinforce their daily learning. Students who reside at the group home continue their instruction during evening hours, via reinforcement activities and activities of daily living instruction.
Clients who are receiving services in the hospital program at Scott Nolan Center are also offered educational opportunities. For those clients who do not attend any other MH&DR, Inc. program, consultation is made with home school districts for information on academic needs. Academic needs are then met via trained staff at the hospital program. If a client is an enrolled student in one of the group home programs and is temporarily hospitalized at Scott Nolan Center, the group home teacher provides activities to be utilized for the student while hospitalized.
