Center Glen provides a day school program as well as 24 hour residential and educational therapeutic program for children and adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing and have a wide range of emotional or behavioral problems, developmental or multiple issues. These facilities serve either day or residential students with a variety of emotional, behavioral or developmental issues in addition to being deaf, hard of hearing, dually sensory impaired, using a cochlear implant or presenting with other communication challenges. Our students, who come from various states, present with a wide range of problems, disorders and syndromes, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression and bipolar disorder, CHARGE, obsessive compulsive disorder, reactive attachment and various impulse control issues, autism, Asperger’s and pervasive developmental disorders, to name just a few. They are referred by teachers and schools, parents, state and local agencies, hospitals, providers and courts.

Highlights of the Program include:

  • Customized day or residential educational and therapeutic treatment programming for adolescents, children and young adults.

  • Individualized Educational Plans tailored for each student, including job instruction both on and off-site.

  • Individual Treatment Plans developed by a multidisciplinary team of mental health and deafness experts including a psychologist, psychiatrist, deaf educator and nurse plus day and evening site supervisors.

  • Individual, group, family and expressive treatment with long distance video family therapy option

  • Well supervised setting with much individual attention in a homelike environment

  • Reduced stimulation milieu

  • Program of community activities

  • Extended year school program

  • Approved by the Joint Commission on Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

  • Licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

  • School programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Additionally, these programs can also serve day students who live within driving distance of the homes.
